General information

"Portico to the Ards, Portico to the Arts"

County Down photographer Jane Wright documents the restoration of Portaferry Presbyterian

Church and its rebirth as Portico, Portaferry’s new Arts & Heritage Centre. She shows from her

unique perspective the fascinating physical transformation with images of the crazy quantities of

subterranean cabling to artistic angular perspectives on the scaffolding.

Portico is grade A listed and its unique architecture is modelled on the Greek Temple of Nemesis.

Owned by the charity Friends of Portaferry Presbyterian Church, it was restored in 2015 by the

Heritage Lottery Fund and over 20 other charitable bodies including the congregation.

Portico was opened by HRH Prince Charles in May 2016 and won the Royal Society of Ulster

Architects’ design award for Best Cultural Space. Portico hosts heritage exhibitions and stages

concerts throughout the year. It is also available for hire for weddings, funerals, conferences etc. For more information please see www.porticoards.com or ring 028 4272 8808.
