An Unrepentant Romantic: Richard Hayward (1892 - 1964)

24 October
The Linen Hall Library and PRONI present a free symposium celebrating the life of a man of many parts and places.

On the 50th anniversary of his death, we look back on the life and achievements of Richard Hayward - one of Ireland's best loved celebrities from the mid-20th century.   Writer, actor, broadcaster and singer, Hayward appeared in the first black and white Irish films in the 1930s, and drove around the country recording folklore, heritage and stories for his travel books. During the day we will:

See clips from his films
Hear his folksongs and speech recordings
Discuss his drama and writing
Assess his legacy

Some of those who knew him will recall memories and anecdotes to help illuminate his life.

9.45am - 4.30pm

Admission is free, but booking is essential.
