Bangor & North Down Christian Heritage, History & Horticulture

Walking Route
St Comgall founded Bangor Abbey in 558AD and it grew to become one of the most important seats of learning in Ireland where monks such as Columbanus and Gall set forth to spread Christianity throughout Europe.

A short walk from Bangor Abbey is North Down Museum where you will have the opportunity to explore the area’s history from the Abbey to Vikings and World War II to Bangor’s development as a seaside destination.

Following a short break in the Castle Garden Restaurant at North Down Museum visit the nearby Bangor Castle Walled Garden where you will learn of the horticulture of Castle Park and Garden.
