Beech Hill was a base for the US Marines in World War 2. A memorial to the Marine Corps stands in the garden and every year Marines come from America and Europe to keep alive their links with the hotel and the city. A new World War II museum, archive and woodland trail will open at Beech Hill in September 2012.
