Big Dog Forest

Walking Route
The star attractions of this tricky, isolated walk are the two small rocky hills known as Big Dog and Little Dog. Some say they are the result of volcanic action in the distant past, others tell a different tale.

They are said to be Giant Warrior Finn McCool's favourite Irish wolfhounds. One day they picked up the scent of a witch and gave chase but she used magic to escape and turned the dogs to stone, now they lie forever side-by-side.
The 360-degree vantage point beside Little Dog is magnificent; to the east are rugged limestone hills, to the north Meenagleragh Lough, surrounded by large areas of conifer plantations. To the west is Donegal Bay and to the South his sleeping brother, Big Dog.
