Bradkeel Cottage is situated in the Sperrin Mountains, an “area of outstanding natural beauty”, three miles from the village of Plumbridge in County Tyrone. It occupies a half-acre site with excellent views of the surrounding mountains and farmland. A stream running off the nearby mountain borders the property. If you are looking for peace and quiet, away from traffic noise, Bradkeel Cottage is the place for you.
The cottage is in an ideal location for walking, cycling, golf, fishing, or simply relaxing.
The cottage has a large en-suite master bedroom with king sized bed and a dressing area. There is a further twin bedded room, and a single room. All the bedrooms have generous storage space for clothes and are fully equipped with bed linen and towels.
The comfortable lounge has a feature stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. Logs are supplied. There is freeview digital TV and a DVD player with an extensive film library that includes children’s films.
The sunroom adjoining the lounge has a large viewing window that looks out across the local countryside. It contains an wide-ranging library including books of local and topographical interest. A CD player is provided, with a selection of CDs, that includes Irish and Scottish music.
A telephone is provided for guests to use.
The spacious kitchen is fully equipped, and has a dishwasher, a food processor, a fridge freezer, a microwave, an electric hob and oven and a toaster.
The adjoining dining area has double French doors, opening onto the patio, with dramatic views of the countryside.
We provide a welcome hamper of groceries and toiletries, which includes fresh bread, milk and butter, wine, breakfast cereal, tea, ground coffee, a choice of preserves, shower gel and toothpaste.
A cot with bedding, highchair, buggy, changing mat and selection of baby toys can be supplied on request.
A portable video player is provided, together with a collection of (mainly children’s) videos.
Board games for all ages, and a large “Brio” train set and doll’s house are provided, along with a collection of children’s books.
The utility room is found next to the garage and contains a washing machine and a tumble dryer and a sink for laundry. There is a large mobile washing line for drying
clothes, which can be wheeled in and out of the garage depending on the weather.
The entire house is fitted with a green technology under floor heating system that is supplied from an alternative energy source known as a heat source pump. This takes cold air from outside the house and transforms it to hot water to supply the heating and hot water needs throughout the cottage. It operates like a fridge in reverse and is highly energy efficient and minimizes carbon footprint.
The nearby village of Plumbridge has two convenience stores, a Chinese takeaway and several pubs.
Omagh and Strabane have more extensive shops, including Asda supermarkets. Both towns have Arts Centres, with concerts and exhibitions.
The Ulster American Folk Park has exhibits that feature information on emigration to America from Ulster. It includes original buildings from the old and the new world that have been rebuilt in the folk park. They include the Campbell House from the late 18th Century that stood originally in Plumbridge,not far from Bradkeel Cottage.
Barrontop Fun Farm has facilities for pony trekking, and a soft play area and coffee room as well as opportunities to interact with farm animals.
The Adventure Team, based in nearby Gortin, provide facilities for archery, canoeing, orienteering and other activities.
Gortin Glen forest park has marked walks of varying lengths through beautiful scenery. It is also possible to drive round the park.
The walking and cycling route known as the Ulster Way runs near to the cottage. The Glenelly Valley itself is one of the most picturesque areas in Northern Ireland. There are organised tour walks in the Sperrins. The house is well equipped with local maps of the area. The area is rich in natural flora and fauna and the grounds of the cottage have been sown with native wildflowers and grasses. Ravens, buzzards and herons are regular visitors to the area around Bradkeel Cottage along with seasonal migrating birds. Our library has books that help identify the rich natural flora and fauna of the area.
The local area has numerous prehistoric tombs and stone circles, including Loughash Wedge tomb, Clogherny Wedge Tomb and stone circle, Glenroan Portal Tomb and Goles Stone Row as well as the famous Beagmore stone circles.
