Brian Boru Festival

22 April - 04 May

The ancient Cathedral City of Armagh will join with other locations around Ireland to commemorate the life and times of Brian Boru, in this the 1,000th anniversary of his death

Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, was killed at the Battle of Clontarf on 23rd April 1014 and, as was his wish, he was buried in Armagh. His bones are said to be buried in the North Wall of St. Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral. His victory at Clontarf delivered a final blow to Danish power in Ireland.

Events planned for Armagh include a warrior re-enactment, Viking long-boats, ecumenical church services, a Viking tented village on the Mall and musical performances.

Main Events:

• The arrival of Brian Ború on Wednesday 23rd April [a re-enactment event]
• Viking Longboats at Loughgall Country Park on Thursday 24th April
• Viking Tented Village on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th May
