Castlewellan Forest Park, Slievenaslat Trail

Walking Route

As the black trail enters the mainly coniferous plantation, the remnants of the Moorish Tower can be viewed. There are openings in the forest with impressive vistas of the farmland on and around Slievenaboley, Legananny Mountains and Slieve Croob.

Good paths, sometimes steep


This trail is well marked from the car park and along the route. Follow the black markers (initially also marked with blue markers).

Trail features:

• Steps, gullies, fences, streams. boulders

• Severe gradients

• Generally undefined edges

• Overhanging branches

• All types of terrain

• Some rest areas at regular intervals

• Way-finding markers at trails junctions

• Distance 'To Go' markers at trail junctions

This walk is situated in a working forest environment and may be subject to diversion and closure from time to time.
