Down Summer Links Trophy Golf Tournament

13 August - 15 August
The Down Summer Trophy Open Golf Tournament works in a similar way to its sister event, the Spring Trophy Open Golf Tournament that is held in April, earlier in the year.

The Down Spring Trophy Open Golf Tournament is played over three days. Days one and two will be played at Ardglass Golf Club, Saint Patrick's Golf Club, Downpatrick and Spa Golf Club (one course will be taking a year out every three years on rotation but will still available to be played for a practice round). The tournament days will be Wednesday and Thursday with Friday being the 'Down Spring Trophy' at Royal County Down Golf Club.

Members of one of the associated clubs can pay a competition entry of stg£80, and the competition is open to non-members at an entry fee of stg£130. Stay and play accommodation packages are available at leading local hotels including the 4 Star Slieve Donard Resort and Spa and The Burrendale Hotel.

The Down Summer Trophy, taking place between the 13 - 15 August 2014, was formerly the Heart of Down Golf Tournament, and is, again, played over three days, and hosted by Royal County Down, Ardglass Golf Club, and Saint Patrick's Golf Club.

Limited to 148 players, the competition format is the same as the Spring Trophy, and members of the associated clubs can pay a stg£75 competition entry, while non-members can enter this enjoyable, but testing, tournament for stg£130.

•Ardglass Golf Club
Ardglass Golf Club with its championship standard greens is always in excellent condition. Located on the beautiful County Down coast, Ardglass is links golf as it should be. With views of the rugged and beautiful coast line from every hole and the majesty of the Mourne Mountains providing the perfect back-drop, Ardglass has a true claim to be rated amongst the world’s greatest links courses.

The Course begins with no less then six spectacular holes laid out atop the cliffs directly over-looking the sea - raw, rocky and dramatic. Ardglass Golf Club is often referred to as Northern Ireland's very own 'Pebble Beach'.

• Saint Patrick's Golf Club, Downpatrick
Saint Patrick's Golf Club is well known for extending a warm welcome to its visitors who come from near and far. With considerable re-designing and a new 18th hole, Saint Patrick's Golf Club can now take its place among the best courses in the country. There are some classic Par 4’s which require long straight hitting, while the Par 3 eleventh, guarded by water ranks with the best short holes in Ireland.

•Spa Golf Club
Spa Golf Club is sited on rolling countryside nestled amid the famous County Down Drumlins. It is greatly admired as a highly competitive 6,531 yard, par 72 course and has the potential to become one of the finest tests of golf in the country. Feature holes on the course will test the skill of the most hardened veteran. Spa is, however, quite a relaxing venue with panoramic views from the 17th tee of the Mourne Mountains and also an abundance of resident wildlife.

•Royal County Down Golf Club (Championship Links)
Royal County Down is quite simply one of the best courses in the world. Its virtues have been extolled by many great player including Tom Watson, Gary Player and Christie O’Connor. Set in idyllic surroundings at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, the course caves its way through majestic gorse covered sand dunes. Anyone with a love of golf should play Royal County Down Championship Links at least once in their lifetime.

•Royal County Down Golf Club (Annesley Links)
The Annesley Links at Royal County Down shares the same magnificent setting as the Championship Links and is full of character. Although much shorter than the Championship Links, it is still a very testing course, with magnificent views of sea, mountains and duneland.
