Easter Holiday Family Ideas

Keep the kids – and yourself – entertained over the Easter half term holidays, with plenty of great events and days out in Northern Ireland.

Adventureland - CanoeingIf you fancy trying a new outdoor activity, head along to Northern Ireland Adventureland Weekend (28 - 29 March).  The whole family can enjoy taster sessions in a range of exciting pursuits across the region, from mountain biking to segwaying and canoeing, and all at a reduced cost.

All ages will enjoy the free, monthly Acoustic Picnic in Belfast's Oh Yeah Music Centre (4 April), with great live music over a picnic-style lunch.  You can also play some giant board games and visit the Belfast Music Exhibition.  Also in Belfast, the Spring into Easter event at City Hall (4 - 7 April) offers an excellent line-up of free, family entertainment with arts and crafts activities, storytelling and drama.  Make your way to the city's Ulster Museum during the holidays, for music and fun children's workshops as part of BellaFesta '15 (10 - 12 April).

For a memorable day out, visit the Ulster American Folk Park in County Tyrone for their Spring Fair Day Easter Celebrations (4 - 6 April).  Stroll down the outdoor museum's Shipbuoy Street and experience the sights, smells and sounds of a busy market day in 1900s Ulster, with the chance to try traditional crafts and meet the baby chicks.

For an unusual, pirate-themed Easter Monday, go to the Bangor Easter Parade in County Down (6 April).  As well as the colour and spectacle of the annual parade itself, there will be a thrilling Moto Trial NI motorbike competition plus a Treasure Island full of crafts, activities and music.

Castle EspieWith Spring here at last, it's the perfect time to get in touch with nature and wildlife.  Visit our beautiful outdoor spaces such as Ness Country Park near Derry~Londonderry, Carnfunnock Country Park along the Causeway Coastal Route, the unique Peatlands Park in County Armagh or Crom Estate on the shores of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh.  If you want to get up close with animals or birdlife go along to Belfast Zoo, Castle Espie Wetland Centre on Strangford Lough in County Down or one of our many open farms
