Ely Lodge Forest is part of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark and is the setting for many outdoor activities such as fishing, boating and birding. Access is possible by boat at Carrickreagh Jetty located on Lower Lough Erne, part of the Shannon Erne waterway. The area provides several good vantage points for watching wildfowl and water birds. Amongst other species, the Lough is home to the great crested crebe, mute swan and a variety of ducks such as merganser and tufted.

The 250ha of woodland contains a delightful mixture of coniferous and broadleaved trees. Each season of the year brings its own special atmosphere to this lovely lakeside forest. Spring with the delicate tints of new leaves overhanging and carpets of bluebells.

The most striking aspect of this walk is the patchwork quilt of broadleaved and coniferous trees, with each season bringing its own special atmosphere to this mature lakeside forest. The area is renowned for its giant trees and autumn colours.

Route:

From the car park, follow the red route as indicated by the way marked posts. This convenient circular walk through deep forest will take you out along the shoreline of Lower Lough Erne, each season bringing out the best in woodland and open lough alike. Continue along leaf strewn paths, watching out for woodland wildlife as you go before joining a track where you can truly say you are in the heart of the forest.

Please note: This Forest is managed sustainably by NI Forest Service. This walk is situated in a working forest environment and may be subject to diversions and closure from time to time.

Steps, gullies, fences, streams, boulders, severe gradients, undefined edges, overhanging branches, some rest areas, way-finding markers at trail junctions.
Wheelchair access is not possible due to path gradients.

Getting to the start by car:

From Enniskillen, travel north along the A46 Shore road towards Belleek. Approximately 10 km from Enniskillen Ely Lodge Forest car park is signposted and located to the right.
