Experience Ards - Abbots, Priests and Pilgrims

26 July
From early times, religion has flourished in the Ards. Established under the Church of St Patrick, Christianity was promoted by the impressive priories and abbeys of the Anglo-Normans. Tracing the rise of Christianity in the Ards Peninsula, your journey will begin at Nendrum, on of Ireland's finest examples of a 5th century island monastery. From here, you will travel to Newtownards to the country's only surviving well-preserved medieval Dominican Priory. After a lunch stop at Mount Stewart the tour will then visit Grey Abbey, built on the instruction of the legendary Lady Afrecca.
