Fermanagh Black Bacon

Fresh Fermanagh

1 Day Itinerary (except Sunday)

A huge expanse of wetlands and lakes, County Fermanagh is breathtakingly beautiful and offers plentiful fresh water produce and the famous Fermanagh Black Bacon

The main town is Enniskillen and when you've just about shopped til you drop there are lots of charming cafes and bars serving some of the finest homemade organic produce you are ever likely to come across.
Start the day early with a whistle-stop visit at O’Doherty’s Fine Meats in Enniskillen.  Owner Pat O’Doherty will be delighted to tell you more about his specialty meats and award winning Fermanagh Black Bacon.  The bacon is unique to Fermanagh and reflects bacon production in Ireland 100's of years ago.  Indeed the distinctive bacon has held the accolade 'Best Irish Food Product' awarded by the Ballygowan Irish Food Writers.
Allow 30 minutes travel time from Enniskillen and at 0945 arrive at the magical island of Belle Isle on Upper Lough Erne and the Belle Isle School of Cookery.  This state of the art cookery school offers courses tailored to suit every level of competence and with resident chef Liz Moore on hand; even novices won’t feel left behind!  Liz believes in providing a hands-on approach, demonstrating every aspect of cookery from basic kitchen hygiene to the use of fresh garden herbs and putting the all-important finishing touches to a gourmet meal.  Daylong courses are tailor made for the busy cook and a variety of themes are available, you will be sure to return for second helpings, especially considering a gourmet lunch is included. Pre-booking is essential.
After Belle Isle continue your journey to Irvinestown and stop at the Tickety Moo Farm, home of the Tickety Moo Super Ice Cream.  You can visit the ice-cream shop where there are 18 homemade flavours to choose from and after 1730 you can watch the jersey cow herd being milked.  The milking and ice-cream production are both done on the same site to ensure freshness.
Finish off your busy day in Fermanagh with a fine dining experience in Restaurant Number 6 & Café Merlot, Enniskillen.
Staying overnight in the area, you might want to try the indulgence of the 5* Lough Erne Resort, Enniskillen or wake up to the stunning lake views at the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.
