From Ballyhossett to Bengal

This display features a selection of documents, photographs, medical instruments and uniforms belonging to Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Silcock which were recently donated to Down County Museum.

Born in Ballyhosset in 1856, Lieutenant-Colonel Silcock studied Medicine at Trinity College, Dublin. He later joined the Indian Medical Service in 1881 and had a distinguished career as a surgeon in India. Upon his retirement, he returned to County Down and served as a member of the Pensions Board during World War I.
