International Appalachian Trail (IAT)

Walking Route

The trail is in the province of Ulster in Ireland and runs from west Donegal in the Republic of Ireland to Larne, Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland. The route starts at the spectacular Slieve League mountain and passes through the Blue Stack Mountains in Co Donegal then crosses into Northern Ireland. Here it picks up the Ulster Way where it passes the Giant’s Causeway, the stunning northern coastline before traversing the Glens of Antrim.

Getting to the start by public transport:

From the town of Killybegs, follow the R263 to the west, following signs for Kilcar and Glencolumbkille. After 15km and upon arriving in the village of Carrick, take the Teelin Road to the left, following signs for Bunglas and Slieve League. Continue to follow signs for Bunglas, arriving at Bunglas car park after 5km.

Getting to the start by car:

Bus Eireann Service 490 operates between Killybegs and Carrick, after which there would be a 5km walk to the start of the route at Bunglas car park.
