The north side is softer and there is a very dangerous area in the north-west corner where a warning notice indicates sandy banks and deep water. Fishing is prohibited in the region of the treatment plant. During the 1970s pike became plentiful, and later when perch were introduced. Killyfole is a designated coarse fishery.
