Literary Lunchtimes return to the Ulster Hall this summer

18 May 2012

Make the most of lunchtimes by losing yourself in a monthly mini adventure with the return of The Ulster Hall’s hugely popular Literary Lunchtimes series.

Literary Lunchtimes showcase works by celebrated Irish writers in The Ulster Hall’s Group Space, with one special event taking place each month from May through to August.

First up, Theatre Without Walls & Public Works presents Desert Island Books (Wednesday 23 May), by Jason Maher and starring Genevieve Swift. This funny and moving play is for anyone who has ever fallen in love with a book or dreamed of a new life. Afterwards there will be a book swap and a chance to discuss your favourite reads with the cast!

Belfast-born author David Park (Wednesday 27 June) reads from and talks about his most recently published novel, The Light of Amsterdam. David is the author of a collection of short stories and six novels including 2004’s Swallowing the Sun (shortlisted for the Irish Novel of the Year Award). In 2008 he was awarded the American Ireland Fund Literary Award for his contribution to Irish Literature.

Poetry Picnic (Wednesday 18 July) is an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing lunchtime picnic in style, as a host of talented local writers celebrate Belfast’s parks, lawns and outdoor spaces with music, word, short theatre and film. Sandwiches and refreshments will be available for purchase from The Ulster Hall’s Café Grand Dame.

In Reggie Chamberlain-King: The Decline of the Irish Murder (Wednesday 22 August), the Belfast-based writer and broadcaster reads from all three volumes of his metaphysical murder mystery series, Brittaine & Molloy, singing gruesome murder ballads with his gruesome band and speaking softly about terrible topics!

Literally Lunchtimes sell out in double quick time, so book now to make sure your lunchtime mini adventures have a happy ending!

Literary Lunchtimes take place in The Ulster Hall Group Space from 1pm to 2pm. Tickets are £3, apart from David Park which is £5.

Tickets are available online, from The Ulster Hall and Waterfront Box Offices and by calling (028) 9033 4455.
