Friday Night Fever City Hall

Metro Brings ‘Friday Night Fever’ to Belfast City Centre

Forget Saturday Night Fever, Friday is shaping up to be the hottest day of the week!

This is the message from Translink as its action-packed, valued-laden ‘Metro Fridays’ campaign ‘springs’ into action again from 3rd April.  Running for three months, it brings a return of the Metro £1 reduced fare which is, in turn, the ‘ticket’ to a range of partner offers, including discounted drinks, dining, and entertainment as well as pamper, preening and gym sessions.

The initiative continues Metro’s bid to resurrect the ‘Friday Feeling’ – that unique feel-good factor typically experienced at the end of the working week – among Belfast citizens, encouraging them to use Metro services to capitalise on all that the City has to offer, but without breaking the bank.

A recent poll showed  that almost 80% of Belfast citizens   now experience the ‘Friday Feeling’ – compared with just two-thirds before the first ever Metro Fridays campaign last year.*  Additionally, 70% of respondents choose Friday over Saturday as their preferred weekend evening out.  80% report hitting the town on a Friday evening, with 60% heading out straight after work to get the full value of the after-work atmosphere.

Carol Marsden, Translink Brand Manager, explains: “When we launched the first Metro Fridays campaign,   Belfast people appeared to have lost the ‘Friday Feeling’.  Since then, the signs are that the buzz and energy are back in Belfast as the poll shows that the public are feeling more sociable and keen to be in the City after work and beyond.** With Metro passenger numbers up 30% since 2005 and, since Metro Fridays, up almost 6% on Fridays after 7pm alone we are happy Metro Fridays is helping to contribute to the city's success.

“This time round, Metro Fridays has even more to offer to heighten the Friday experience.  The £1 evening value fare is a great incentive to enable people to go where the City takes them on a Friday evening, without worrying about car-parking costs or arrangements. We will also be hitting the streets with Cool FM for some great entertainment, while our partners span the ‘socialising’ spectrum including Botanic Inns, LA Fitness, Andrew Mulvenna hairdressing, Nick’s Warehouse, Two Taps, the Spaniard, Hill St Brasserie, Roscoffs, and No 27 Talbot Street. As spring becomes summer, we expect Metro Fridays to help the City reach fever pitch this year!”***

The Metro poll, which surveyed 100 citizens in Belfast, also revealed:
-          77% of people enjoy going out on a Friday because it ‘feels’ different from a Saturday, with a more relaxed, sociable and friendly atmosphere
-          60% of people feel they are more likely to meet someone ‘special’ on a Friday night!
-          67% of people enjoy going out spontaneously; 60% enjoy going out straight after work.
