Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking

2013 has seen a massive growth in mountain biking in Northern Ireland with the launch of 4 new trail centres, Davagh Forest Trails in mid April, Barnett Demesne Trail and Jumps Park in late April and both Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails & Castlewellan Mountain Bike Trails in May.

How To Get Started

Head over to MountainBikeNI.com - Get Started for all the info you require to hit the trails
The launch of loads of new trail centres has made mountain biking in Northern Ireland very accessible - simply choose your trail, hire a bike and away you go.

Is It Easy?

Mountain bike trails are graded by difficulty, allowing riders to choose which trail is most suited to their own ability - ranging from green/easy to orange/extreme.  For those who know how to cycle mountain biking is a relatively easy sport to take up. However a good level of fitness is a must, as well as lots of determination to get up those hills and bravery coming down the steep slopes.  If you book a session with an activity provider, you will be supplied with all the necessary equipment and gain a useful insight into the techniques used in order to get the most from the sport.

Is It Expensive?

Basic mountain bikes can be purchased from as little as £300. You should always wear a helmet and gloves.
