How would you like to learn what it was like to battle in the 16 century? Or how monks tended to their abbeys? Or even how we lived in early times? Come along to one of these living history events at the many sites and monuments.

Medieval Mystery Tour of Down, Downpatrick

Lughnasa Fair at Carrickfergus Castle, Carrickfergus

NIEA invites you to Devenish Island every Sunday in August to meet our Early Christian monk. Find out how St Molaise founded the site in 5th century and learn about his way of life on this important and busy island monastery.

Tully Castle Capers and Dog Show, Derrygonnelly, Enniskillen

Come along to Tully Castle for a family day out. Meet the 17th century plantation settlers who would have built and lived at Tully and enjoy lots of great activities for all the family. Don’t forget to bring the dog!

Sundays at Carrickfergus Castle, Carrickfergus

History comes to life at the castle with music, crafts, characters and soldiers. Meet the castles blacksmith and carpenter and also the Barber-Surgeon.

Martello Tower Open Day, Limavady

A chance to see inside Martello Tower at Magilligan, one of the few intact towers left in Ireland and learn about its design history and use. There will be a display of weaponry of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and a guide will illustrate how the billeted soldiers lived.

Bank Holiday Monday at Carrickfergus Castle, Carrickfergus

History comes to life with music, crafts, characters and soldiers. All Normans and Normas, get a reduced admission fee on proof of Norman-ness!
