Out and About

Explore more this Mothering Sunday and celebrate the occasion with a great local experience, whatever 'type' of Mum you have!

Chilled Mum

If your mum appreciates beautiful scenery and unplanned excursions, then there is plenty of choice from the Causeway Coastal Route, Sperrin Mountains or scenic Clogher Valley to the magnificent Mountains of Mourne, or the tranquil Fermanagh Lakelands. Why not take a picnic and enjoy the scenery or stop in one of the many villages or towns for coffee or lunch.

Alternatively take Mum along to one of our beautiful National Trust properties.  This Mother's Day, the mid Ulster properties of Springhill, Wellbrook Beetling Mill, The Argory and Ardress House are offering free entry to the houses and estates for all mums, who will also receive a special gift.

Fun Mum

For those mums who love animals, a family day out at Belfast Zoo brings its own unique flavour to Mother's Day.  This weekend you can get up close with the special mums of the zoo such as Fidda, the Barbary lion and Gladys, the Malayan tapir.

Factual Mum

On the other hand if your mother is interested in historic features why not step back in time with a visit to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, County Tyrone. At this unique open-air museum telling the story of Irish emigration, you can travel from the thatched cottages of Ulster to the log cabins of the American frontier via a full-scale emigrant sailing ship. At its sister museum, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra in County Down, you can experience life in the early 1900s in the charming village of Ballycultra town - a great way to spend a day with family. Or spend an afternoon in one of Ireland's finest medieval castles, Carrickfergus Castle. The self-guided tour will take you through 800 years of military might.

Adventurous Mum

What better way to show your Mum you love her than by pushing her downhill...literally...and she will enjoy it too!  Zorbing is one of the latest extreme sports to sweep the world and The Jungle, Moneymore, has brought it to Northern Ireland.  Picture yourself inside a massive inflatable ball hurtling at high speed down a hill face, spinning, bouncing and rolling.  Alternatively, head along to Delamont Country Park in Killyleagh, County Down for its Mother's Day Activity Special organised by Action Outdoors.  Here Mum and all the family can try their hand at activities such as kayaking, archery, orienteering and canoeing.
