Out and About with Mum
Explore more this Mothering Sunday and celebrate the occasion with a great local experience, attraction or activity. We have something no matter what type of mum you have!
If your mum appreciates beautiful scenery and unplanned excursions, then there is plenty of choice from the Causeway Coastal Route, magnificent Mountains of Mourne, or the tranquil Fermanagh Lakelands. Why not take a picnic and enjoy the scenery or stop in one of the many villages or towns for coffee or lunch.
Alternatively take Mum along to one of our beautiful National Trust properties, some of which are hosting special Mother's Day events.
For those mums who love animals, a family day out at Belfast Zoo brings its own unique flavour to Mother's Day. Also in Belfast, W5 offers a fun-filled day of exploration and disocovery that both mums and kids will love.
On the other hand if your mother is interested in historic features why not step back in time with a visit to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, County Tyrone. At this unique open-air museum telling the story of Irish emigration, you can travel from the thatched cottages of Ulster to the log cabins of the American frontier via a full-scale emigrant sailing ship.
At its sister museum, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra in County Down, you can experience life in the early 1900s in the charming village of Ballycultra town - a great day out for mum and all the family. Or spend an afternoon in one of Ireland's finest medieval castles, Carrickfergus Castle. The self-guided tour will take you through 800 years of military might.
We have activities for all skills and preferences of mum (and the rest of the family). Surf or body board on waves from the roaring North Atlantic or head to the Mourne Mountains - where which you can walk, climb, horse-ride or even blast down on a mountain board. Alternatively, try canoeing in Fermanagh or cycling in the Sperrins. Multi-activity centres offer taster sessions so adventurous mums can try their hand at a range of different activities.
