This small and very attractive reservoir lies on the coast road between Donaghadee and Bangor. With the increasing demands on all public reservoirs the water level tends to drop considerably in the summer. Portavoe is open from 1st February until 31st December and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout. This is a fly-fishing only water, and successful flies include lure and attractor patterns.
Disabled access facilities: there is a tarmac car park available for anglers, a level tarmac path running for 100m and six fishing stands suitable for wheelchairs.
How to get there: From Belfast, take the A2 through Holywood towards Bangor. Join the Bangor ring road, turning right towards Donaghadee and continue on the Ring Road as far as the Groomsport roundabout (fifth and last roundabout). Turn right towards Donaghadee on the A2. The reservoir entrance is about four km along this road.
