When a hotel is as elegant as Ten Square, who can blame you for hardly straying outside this oasis of luxury, even if it's right in the heart of shopping, nightlife and city attractions? One of Belfast's most stylish and sophisticated boutique hotels, Ten Square recently was named Hotel of the Month by the prestigious British Airways in-flight magazine. But if you should decide to venture beyond your room, China private bar, Porcelain restaurant and urbane Bar Red are right within this 'Sanctuary in the City'. Otherwise, hang the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Go to www.tensquare.co.uk or tel: 028 9024 1001.

No you're not dreaming. The dazzling, decadent Malmaison Hotel really is like something out of a movie set. When was the last time you shared that 'can this be real?' feeling? Go to www.malmaison-belfast.com or tel: 028 9022 0200.

That special gift
If you want to buy the ultimate gift for that special someone, do it in Northern Ireland. Our excellent value will put a gleam in anyone's eye (or on their finger). We have a dazzling array of trendy boutiques, high street names, craft shops, lifestyle emporia and more!

Do it together! Go on, it's not the biggest sacrifice in the world to go shopping for an afternoon or two, especially when we've so much for every taste. And you'll probably get a very good lunch and those new CDs or trendy watch you had your eye on out of the deal. Plus there’s loads of great little places to recharge over an intimate cappuccino or a bistro lunch. Northern Ireland's own Clement's chain was voted the best coffee in the UK!

Push the boat out for your soulmate (without sinking the budget), with a meal to remember. Northern Ireland is home to many world-class restaurants, including three boasting Michelin stars, guaranteeing exceptional style, service and tastes you'll never forget. When food is this exceptional, dinner is elevated to a totally sensual shared experience!

Celebrity chef Paul Rankin has just opened his new-generation Roscoff - a major event for those who share a love of fine food. Upstairs at Deane's in Belfast City Centre, experience a world of intimate luxury and outright pampering - and the cuisine is equally sensational. Near Bangor, Shanks is bright, buzzy, bustling and just brilliant. You can even enjoy a special dinner and movie evening in the ambience of a stately home at Castle Ward. For more details on Castle Ward call 028 4488 1204 or visit www.ntni.org.uk

The only two people in the world
You'll feel that way as you snuggle up before an open fire in a cosy traditional cottage overlooking the peaceful Fermanagh lakes, or on the Antrim coast where the sound of crashing Atlantic breakers can just be heard outside your window. Take windswept walks across the moors and imagine you're Kathy and Heathcliff and stop for lunch in a friendly country inn. Or pledge your undying love in dramatic settings that are a film director's dream; on the stones of the Giant's Causeway (Open 10am-4.30pm, Monday to Sunday - Tel: 028 2073 1855) looking across the Atlantic towards Rathin Island, the Mull of Kintyre and the Donegal Hills, even atop a heather clad Mourne peak. Why not hide away in a rural cottage? Find your ideal love nest by visiting go to www.cottagesinireland.com.

With a backdrop of some of the most inspiring scenery in Northern Ireland, you'll fall in love all over again – perhaps the most romantic setting is Dunluce Castle (Opening times (until Easter): Mon-Sat: 10am-4pm, Sun: 2pm-4pm - last admission 30mins before closing. Tel: 028 2073 1938). Make a  wish at the wishing well and let the salty winds provide an excuse to keep each other warm at the mermaid's cave. There's a romantic legend everywhere you turn!

Cast a spell
For thousands of years, people in these parts have been pondering the secret of true love and conjuring up ways to help heartfelt dreams come true. So why not help love find a way with a little of our local lore and magic?

If you journey to the Kissing Gate at Tannaghmore Gardens by the Craigavon Lakes, your wish for everlasting love just might be granted. Legend has it that couples who kiss over the gate get hitched within a year. Couples who have their wish fulfilled often return for wedding photographs, sealing their love forever!
Contact Tannaghmore Gardens on 028 3834 3244.

Since the 18th century, courting couples have been making the pilgrimage to the Holestone at Doagh in County Antrim. This ancient Celtic stone still attracts a steady flow of visitors seeking eternal love and happiness. Encircled by whin bushes, the 5-foot stone has a circular opening allowing a slim hand to pass through. According to tradition, the woman must reach her hand through the hole, and as her partner takes her hand they must pledge to love each other forever. Afterwards, scramble up to the top of the rock, hold hands and admire the inspiring view. Today 'I Do's are now exchanged at the Holestone - now you can get married there!

Naturally Northern Ireland has developed its own love potion. The stuff of legend, as you'll discover when you tour the oldest distillery on this island, Bushmills. One sip of this smooth, golden libation and you could become a lifelong admirer! But go easy…it's powerful stuff! Bushmills Distillery, Bushmills, Antrim. Tel: 028 2073 1521
