St. Anne's Cathedral is built on the site of St. Anne's Church- Belfast's first Church of Ireland (Episcopal) Parish. St. Anne's Church existed from 1776 (foundation stone having been laid in 1774) until 1903, when it was demolished.
The foundation stone of the Cathedral was laid by the Countess of Shaftesbury in 1899. Excellent glass mosaics and Irish marble. Largest Celtic Cross in Ireland.
A memorial service for those who lost their lives on Titanic was held here soon after the sinking. The packed congregation included members of Thomas Andrews’ family.
Guided tours by prior arrangement.
