The Bull & Ram, formerly a traditional Northern Irish butcher’s shop, has been lovingly transformed into a gourmet restaurant under the helm of award-winning chef Kelan McMichael. This beautiful Edwardian Grade 1 listed building, has been restored back to its former glory with the help of architect Sean Furey of Gradon Architecture. Original features such as the meat-hanging rail, herringbone oak ceiling and the exquisite tiles on the walls and floor have been brought back to their former glory. The modern annex at the back of the restaurant boasts an open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs at work. A medley of soft fruits, herbs and vegetables will all be grown in the walled garden unearthed behind the restaurant.
The Bull & Ram was opened by chef Kelan McMichael, and Kelan’s passion for foraging and sourcing local seasonal produce has inspired him to create an imaginative, modern yet informal menu that showcases the best of County Down ingredients. From 66-day beef, dry-aged in a Himalyan salt chamber to fresh fish landed in Portavogie, County Down, diners can enjoy the best of produce that County Down has to offer. Signature dishes already include Strangford lobster and crayfish cocktail, bone marrow on toast and sugar pit cured pork ribs. A wide-ranging drinks menu is available, offering cocktails, local craft ales and gins, and some of the finest wines from James Nicholson wine merchants.
A day menu runs from 12:00 -18:00 Monday-Saturday and offers value for menu with main courses starting from £10.95. Specials change daily, and include delicacies such as tripe and ketchup, lamb sweetbreads, salt & spice calamari and grilled lobster.
The ‘Toast to the Roast’ is available from 12:00 - 18:00 every Sunday and diners can choose from 55 day aged rump of beef or Mourne lamb with all the trimmings and a glass of house wine for £15.95.
