The Inaugural John O'Connor Writing School

The Writing School taught programme offers students the opportunity to specialise in a genre of their choice from:-poetry, creative fiction, stage/screen, song, nonfiction and media (journalism,commercial and business, advertising, blogging).They will enjoy ten hours of workshop/master classes delivered by acclaimed experts in their field, including Paul Muldoon, Martina Devlin, Daragh Carville, Barry Devlin, Bernie McGill, Sean O’Hagan, crime writer Stuart Neville and Padraig Coyle from radio/television and others from media, food and travel. There will be standalone Master classes in memoir writing.

Students will have exclusive meetings and discussions with key publishing houses and benefit from the solitude of Writers’ Rooms in the ancient and beautiful buildings of Armagh City. The Literary Arts programme will feature Bronagh Gallagher in the Market Place Theatre on 3rd.November and the first ‘Muldoon’s Picnic’ outside New York with Pulitzer prize winner Paul Muldoon presenting an evening of poetry, literature, music and song including some Horslips, Anne Enright, Michael Longley and others. Audiences will be enthralled by travel writer Geoff Hill.

Other events include an evening of story, repartee and song with award winning playwrights Marie Jones and Martin Lynch. John O’Connor’s much loved novel ‘Come Day, Go Day’ will be relaunched by Irish Publishers Liberties Press, and we will see the Literary and Cultural Walking Trail in Armagh, discovering this truly beautiful and inspiring ancient ‘City of Saints and Scholars’.
