The South-West

In no hurry to reach the sea, the Erne River meanders across a lakeland paradise, flowing into an island-studded lake narrowing midway at the lively island town of Enniskillen. The Shannon-Enme waterway has opened 500 miles of navigable water and introduced thousands of visitors to this region's wonders.
Boaters, cruisers and fishermen are well catered for with marinas, waterside pubs, restaurants serving delicious local produce, plus boat hire, watersports centres and 'water buses', so everyone can splash in. Even cruise underground at the amazing Marble Arch Caves.
Everywhere are reminders of Ireland's prehistoric and Christian heritage. Island-hop to Boa to see the intriguing stone idols, disembark at Devinish with its perfect round tower, then on to Lusty Beg for good food and outdoor fun. The antiquities trail continues into Tyrone's Clogher Valley.
For landlovers, the Southwest is studded with stately homes, including Castle Coole, Florencecourt and Ardress House. Or take the Kingfisher Cycle Trail past Lough Melvin, home to Ireland's weirdest fish. No surprise that local pubs are great spots for sharing watery tales!
