Come with us on a two hour tour of Titanic Belfast, in our luxury Mercedes MPV with the great granddaughter of a crew member.
Whatever your length of stay in the city, Titanic Tours Belfast can fit in with your itinerary. We can pick you up from your hotel, cruise ship, b&b, or even if you are staying with friends of family, at a time to suit you. The vehicle seats a maximum of five people. It is a Mercedes Viano people carrier, with built-in DVD system, air conditioning, leather seats and privacy glass. Because of Belfast's unpredictable weather, we provide the umbrellas! Bottled water is also included.
Our first stop is the exterior of the home of former shipyard chairman, Lord William Pirrie. This fine Scottish baronial house is set in the suburbs of East Belfast. Then we cross the city to the home where chief Titanic designer, Thomas Andrews lived with his wife, Helen. Dunallon has a beautiful wrought iron staircase and stained glass window which is said to have been the inspiration for the window in the ballroom on Titanic. The building is now the home of the Irish Football Association and is only open during business hours. There is a chance here to visit the IFA shop. From here. we enter the Titanic Quarter and learn about the slipways where Olympic and Titanic were built side by side, dominating the Belfast skyline from 1908 onwards. We see the drawing offices where the intricate designs for the ships were prepared and hear about the history of Harland and Wolff shipyard. We also see the huge dry dock built specially for the Olympic-class liners and now referred to as the footprint of Titanic. Within the Northern Ireland Science Park, we see the Victorian pump house from where the dock was flooded and drained and HMS Caroline, the second oldest commissioned ship in the Royal Navy. Our tour finishes at Belfast City Hall where we hear about the 22 men from Belfast whose names are engraved on the Titanic Memorial. Later this summer, the SS Nomadic will be receiving visitors once more. A visit to Titanic's tender ship will form part of the tour. You will then be dropped back to your pick up point.
Longer tours are available for those wishing to pass a full day in Belfast. As well as the Titanic tour as outlined above, you will see Northern Ireland's historic Parliament Buildings at Stormont, Belfast Castle on the slopes of the Cavehill and the notorious Falls and Shankill Roads including sections of the Peace Line. We also pass the former jail and courthouse, connected by an underground tunnel. This tour can be designed to include a lunch break at a city centre restaurant. It lasts approximately seven hours, but can be tailored to suit your itinerary. Cost for a full day tour is dependent on numbers but is approximately £100 including lunch.
The tour operates all year round, on a pre-booked basis only. The rates include pick up & return to your accommodation or cruise ship.
