Tracing Roots

Before you come, start your search at home. There are many useful genealogy publications in the US and Canada not readily available here. We also advise beginning enquiries with Northern Irish organisations well before you visit. There are many local organisations which will be able to assist with your search. Their policy is to answer all letters, whether or not they can help. So when you write, please enclose three international reply coupons to help with postage expenses.

Many publications are currently in print to help you to trace your roots in Northern Ireland. Start with the search organisations listed, such as the Public Record Office. As a starting point on the web, a useful resource can be found at www.cyndislist.com/ireland.htm.
