Ulster Scots
Ulster-Scots (Scotch-Irish in the USA) are the people descended from the mainly Lowland Scots who settled in Ulster (the northern-most province of Ireland) in the 17th century. Many Americans are descended from the 250,000 Presbyterian Ulster-Scots who settled along the Eastern seaboard from New England to the Carolinas in 1717-1800. A second wave of immigration took place during the Famine years in the mid-1800s.
