W5 is hard to put into words as it is an experience - W5 stands for whowhatwherewhenwhy – the five questions we all ask of everything… W5 is an award-winning science centre at the Odyssey Complex in Belfast and unlike traditional museums there is not one “Do Not Touch” sign in sight. From the moment you step into this interactive centre you are invited to touch, feel, smell and press everything in sight! There really is nothing else like it on the island of Ireland.
There is a world of discovery to delight, inspire, intrigue and fascinate here and something for everyone - from age eight and under, to age eighty and above; and from the most enlightened intellect to the most curious mind. It is a great place for adults and children, alike, to learn about the science of everything, and to encourage them to ask the questions: Who? What? Where? When? Why?
W5 is located in the Odyssey Complex in the thriving Titanic Quarter of Belfast. The building is divided into four sections, START, GO, SEE, and DO, with over 250 permanent interactive exhibits spread throughout these areas, waiting to help unlock secrets of forensic science, nature, flight, geography, and creativity; and to show all visitors that science is right outside our doors, accessible to all, understandable by all and, most importantly, fun to learn!
Every day the Sci-Five team of demonstrators offers a variety of floor demonstration shows. These fun science-related demos invite visitors to take part and get a closer look at a wide variety of topics that you can learn and try at home - from edible explosions to slime to cooking chemistry.
All W5’s events and activities are FREE with admission and tickets are valid all day so you can stay as long as you wish. W5 has a coffee shop and there are picnicing areas throughout the building for families who prefer to bring their own packed lunch meaning a day out at W5 offers an incredible variety of activities and excellent value-for-money, something that many cost-conscious families will welcome!
