Walled City of Derry – Shedding Light on Our History
One of the key components of this major infrastructure and physical development programme is the implementation of a world class lighting scheme.
This recognises the unique aspects of the historic Walled City, including the 17th Century walls, its unique architecture, two conservation areas and a number of significant historic buildings and tourist attractions.
It also covers the two road bridges over the Foyle – the Craigavon and Foyle Bridges – given their iconic Gateway status to and from the city centre.
A comprehensive lighting scheme will also assist the evening economy through making the city more pedestrian friendly and add to feelings of safety.
This should enhance the growing reputation of the city centre as a place of entertainment, shopping and eating out.
Progress and Milestones
