Arthur Cottage
Arthur Cottage, situated in the heart of County Antrim, only a short walk from the village of Cullybackey is the ancestral home of Chester Alan Arthur, the 21st President of the USA.
Enter the carefully restored cottage, be transported to a bygone era and see how the Arthur family lived in the late 18th Century. Follow the story of the Arthur family and trace the link from a rural village in Northern Ireland to the American Presidency.
The interpretive centre also has an interesting collection of objects from the past, including a corn fiddle and a range of horse-drawn farm implements. Reflect on how we used to live, as household utensils and farm instruments evoke memories of the past.
Tables outside provide an idyllic countryside location to enjoy a picnic and some time to reflect.
Local ladies in period costume give regular demonstrations of traditional cooking. Baking of soda bread and pancakes made from traditional recipes over an open fire provides an insight into life in Ireland over the last 200 years and the chance to sample these delights straight from the griddle.
