Angling

Northern Ireland is undoubtedly one of the finest angling destinations in Europe.  Whether you're into coarse, game or sea fishing - we have it all!

Game species on offer include Salmon, Grilse, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Dollaghan, Gillaroo and Sonaghan and some of the best destinations include the wide expanse of Lower Lough Erne in the Fermanagh Lakelands, the Lower Bann system and the nearby tributaries of Lough Neagh, and the the rivers of the Causeway Coast in County Antrim.

Coarse anglers are also well catered for with Pike, Bream, Roach and Perch plentiful in Upper Lough Erne and around Enniskillen, as well as further west in the two Loughs Macnean and Melvin.  The Lough Erne Resort offers a resident Game Angling Instructor who can arrange to take guests on fishing trips.  Visit the hotel's Angling page for more information.

The Toome Canal and Lough Beg, to the north of Lough Neagh, are popular for Pike and other species; as are Kinnego Marina and the Upper Bann to the south of the Lough.

Sea anglers will be amazed at the variety of shore, rock and boat fishing opportunities along our readily accessible coastline.  The Antrim Coast boasts some excellent marks and species to be found include Wrasse, Cod, Whiting, Plaice, Flatfish, Turbot, Mackerel, Haddock, Dogfish, Coalfish, Pollack, Flounder and Conger Eels.

For information on licences and permits, bag limits and how to get started visit DCAL Angling, Loughs Agency or a local tackle shop when you arrive.  Bann System Limited provide full ticket booking facilities for the Lower Bann and Foyle systems, Northern Ireland's most extensive and varied fisheries.  Visit FishPal for direct bookings.

ON COARSE FOR A GREAT CATCH
Fish to your heart's content all year round, choosing from scores of lakes, rivers and canals that are among the least exploited fisheries in Europe. Fantasy? No it's coarse fishing in Northern Ireland, where there's no close season to cramp your style.

Savour the timeless serenity of our scenic landscape and discover the huge variety of species that await coarse anglers throughout the seasons.

In winter, troll the depths of a great lough for massive pike, inhaling clean, crisp air so invigorating that one angling columnist called it 'Ulster Champagne'. In spring, watch for the telltale bubbles in the warming waters of a gently flowing river and tempt huge bream with the sweet ground bait they love.

Summer's time to enjoy the friendly rivalry and swapping of tales with anglers from all over the world. Our match fishing competitions have produced record cases and put our waters firmly on the international angling map. But they're equally famous for the good times when the fishing day is finished.

As summer progresses, find a shady to spot to cast for specimen roach/bream hybrids on the Upper River Bann. And when autumn paints the bankside trees in mellow golds and russet, go spinnng for prime perch and enjoy the solitude.

But it's not just our endless angling year that makes Northern Ireland such a lure for anglers. It's the magic combination of hospitality, enjoyment, great value…. and of course first class fishing. So you'll have the fishing experience and the time of your life!
