Belfast & the Creative Peninsula Craft Trail

Stop in at Space CRAFT, a craft shop, gallery and exhibition area located on the piazza (up the escalator) at The Fountain Centre, College Street, Belfast.  Space CRAFT provides you with the opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy whilst supporting local Artists and Craft producers.

The Historic St George's Market is nearby, and a special Christmas Craft Fair will be  held on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December 2013.  Why not browse the range of stunning Christmas products, while taking in the ambience and live music.

Travel now to Comber, Co Down where you will find Discovery Glass, a working studio specialising in stained, fused and ‘Tiffany’ glass.  Gifts include jewellery, sun catchers, boxes, mirrors, lamps and much more.  Maybe a few new decorations for the house or some unusual gift purchases will leave you feeling content and excited about Christmas.  The studio is open Monday to Friday, 09.30 – 17.30 and Saturday 14.00 – 17.00, but please phone 028 9187 0181 in advance to avoid disappointment.

Breakfast was early and no doubt you're getting hungry. It’s a short drive to Eden Pottery, Millisle where you can enjoy a scrumptious range of homemade baking and freshly ground coffee, amid an array of beautiful hand-decorated pottery gifts.  Or try the excellent Bay Restaurant at Mount Stewart House & Gardens.

Time permitting you may wish to stop at Ards Crafts, Newtownards which offers a unique local craft shopping experience.  After lunch, continue your journey down the Ards Pennisula to the coastal town of Portaferry.  Renowned local jeweller Nora Watson, takes her inspiration from the natural beauty of the Pennisula with its rocky shoreline and swirling waters.  Each unique design incorporate simple, rounded, flowing forms and Nora welcomes commission work.  Why not get a custom designed piece of jewellery for that someone special?

It’s been a great day and you're on the road home, either back up the Ards Pennisula or across Strangford Lough on the ferry to Strangford.  Hopefully with plenty of bags and boxes to show for your trip!
