Your Host

My daughter and I left busy lives in England to come home to County Down and live our passion. We transformed Margaret’s Cottage into a welcoming haven for you to stay, and now we get to live our dream every day in our Irish idyll, where I (and many others!) also get to enjoy my passion for baking.

We love what we do, and we aim to do it well. But don’t just take our word for it: the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say, and we’re very proud of what our lovely guests say about us. They’re generous with their praise, and we’re confident you will be too.

Ciara is the most wonderful and thoughtful of hostesses; she notices and tends to all the details. The rooms are spotless, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is absolutely delicious, served with the best ingredients and prepared with love. The village of Ardglass is just steps away with a great pub, world class golf and a very nice Italian restaurant next door.

The experience was absolutely delightful. The room itself is so cosy and welcoming with beautiful views over the water and of the castle. I could have spent all day relaxing on the sofas listening to the music and looking at the view. Ciara also went above and beyond in catering for my dairy allergy. And so for once I didn't feel like I was missing out in the slightest…

We had a perfect stay in Margaret's Cottage. It was as charming and comfortable as anywhere I've ever stayed. Ciara's genuine and warm welcome sets the tone for a wonderful experience. The rooms are spacious and so thoughtfully set out, with loads of really nice touches dotted about. The little gift of fudge as you arrive was super. Huge bed, massive bathroom, spotless throughout. Breakfast was sensational.

A great place to stay when exploring this area. We asked Ciara for a packed lunch for 2 and what a feed. Tasty sandwiches and lots of home baked delights. In fact all we eat today was the huge breakfast and the packed lunch. Would definitely recommend.

My fiancé and I had a wonderful stay, Ciara was a fantastic host. Breakfast was fantastic! Room was cosy and tidy. We had fish and chips for dinner and Ciara kindly let us eat it in the beautiful drawing room with the fire on. We will be back!

I have just arrived home to find a parcel on my doorstep from my very kind sister, who was at Margaret's Cottage yesterday for afternoon tea. She had invited me but I couldn't go due to working. I have just had the most amazing Afternoon Tea To Go! I had to take the best China out as nothing less would do. I am Vegetarian and Ciaras menu is outstanding from delicious sandwiches to mouth watering vol u vents, beautiful scones to mouthwatering pastries all home baked. A lot of hotels could take a leaf out of your book! Thank you Lorraine and Ciara for making my Wednesday afternoon a delight! I'm reviewing your food a definate 10 🌟✨⭐🌟✨⭐🌟✨⭐🌟

Had afternoon tea accompanied by seasoned travelers and afternoon tea fans. Margarets cottage is right up there with the best of them. Gorgeous home baked goodies, quiet personal space ( so nice to chat without competing to be heard!) and warm friendly host. Can't recommend this little gem of a place enough.
