Lough Neagh

In the heart of Northern Ireland you will find Lough Neagh, the largest lake in either Ireland or Britain and bordering five of the region's six counties. Lough Neagh captivates visitors with its tranquil atmosphere, unspoilt scenery and secluded bays. It is a haven for wildlife with many sites dotted around the shoreline, such as the bird sanctuary at Portmore Lough managed by the RSPB.

The area surrounding the Lough boasts a wealth of attractions and activities. It is rich in history and heritage with important sites including Ardboe Old Cross in County Tyrone, the oldest high cross in Ulster and the third tallest in Ireland, or the fine Round Tower in Antrim Town. The area also offers some excellent walking and cycling opportunities, such as the 113 mile (182 km) Loughshore Cycle Trail, which encircles the Lough taking in many of its chief attractions.

As for water-based activities, why not enjoy a boat trip to one of the Lough's two main islands, Coney Island and Rams Island.  For the slightly more adventurous, Lough Neagh boasts its very own Canoe Trail, as do two of its surrounding rivers - the possibilities for exploration are almost endless.
