Hollyoaks star to appear at Lyric Theatre

13 October 2009 -

Hollyoaks star Gerard McCarthy will star in a one-off performance at Belfast's Lyric Theatre.

The actor, who plays Kris Fisher in the soap, will return to his hometown to appear in The Miser, which has been reworked by David Johnston.

McCarthy said: "I am delighted to be back at the Lyric."

The play is a satirical comedy in five parts, which was originally written by Moliere and follows a money-lender called Harpagon and his children, who want to escape him.

He added: "Moliere is a world away from Hollyoaks and I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into this French classic, directed by Dan Gordon."

McCarthy is no stranger to the theatre, having been awarded the Kenneth Branagh Renaissance Scholarship to train at the Laine Theatre Arts early on in his career and going on to star with Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt at the previous site of the Lyric Theatre.ADNFCR-1859-ID-19405406-ADNFCR
