29 January 2009 -

Fans of nature in Northern Ireland may want to pick up their binoculars as the BBC has reported large birds of prey have been seen in the skies of Londonderry, also known as Derry.

Jenny Witt, from the news provider, climbed the spire of St Eugene's Cathedral with sacristan Kevin Glackin, who has discovered a number of dead pigeons in recent months whose deaths are being linked to peregrine falcons and a falconer bird.

While on the spire, Ms Witt highlighted how it provides a wonderful vantage point to enjoy panoramic views of the city, people planning to travel to Derry will be interested to hear.

Several sightings of birds of prey have been reported across Londonderry, also known as Derry, suggesting lovers of nature in Northern Ireland will have a good time trying to find them for themselves.

Meanwhile, John Scovell, the Royal Society for Protection of Birds' Portmore Lough Reserve warden, recently told the Irish Times Lough Neagh is home to some wonderful birds and animals for people to see.
