Mourne Mountains 'to host charity race'

14 April 2009 -

Northern Ireland's beautiful Mourne Mountains will play host to a demanding multi-sport event next month.

The Diamond Quest Ireland, which may interest holidaymakers looking for sporting activities in Northern Ireland, will take place on May 9th and see participants take part in a 15.5 km run, one km kayak race and 45 km bike section in order to raise money for schools in Nairobi.

Four diamonds worth around £10,000 in total will be given to the winners at O'Hare's Bar in Newcastle, County Down.

In the run section, racers will tackle Carlingford Mountain, followed by a kayak contest across Carlingford Lough and a bicycle road race from Warrenpoint to Newcastle.

Between June 26th and 28th, visitors keen to explore nature in Northern Ireland in less strenuous fashion will be able to take part in the Mourne International Walking Festival.

Walkers, hikers, photographers and all those with an appreciation for magnificent views will have a variety of routes ranging from ten km to 40 km available to them across the region.
