Northern Ireland 'has plenty for tourists'

12 November 2008 -

There are a number of attractions in Northern Ireland for those keen to travel in the country, according to an Australian journalist.

Writing in the Australian, John Lee said there are numerous historic regions, picturesque villages and areas of luscious green countryside waiting to be explored by travellers.

However, it is not just the natural beauty which is mentioned, as Mr Lee said Belfast is a bustling metropolis featuring Victorian splendour and Georgian architecture.
Other areas he notes include County Down, where whitewashed stone cottages, meadows and pubs dot the landscape.

Those who plan to travel in Northern Ireland should head to Londonderry, known as Derry, and take a guided walking tour of the city to learn about its history and significance, he added.

Summing up, Mr Lee said the country is a great one to visit.

"For curious visitors, it's a grand time to explore this surprising region of historic cities, quaint villages and emerald-green countryside. And since Northern Ireland is so compact … you're never more than a few hours drive from any attraction," the journalist claimed.

Those interested in nature in Northern Ireland may want to know the Comber Greenway in Belfast was recently opened to the public, providing seven miles of trees and forests which contain various species of wildlife.
