QFT Movie season 'showcases soundtracks'

26 May 2009 -

Holidaymakers interested in films in Northern Ireland will be able to see a season of movies curated by DJ and soundtrack artist David Holmes at the Queen's Film Theatre (QFT) from May 29th to June 4th.

The Holy Pictures show comprises a selection of the films that have inspired the artist and will feature Oscar-winning classic Midnight Cowboy, political-thriller The Battle of Algiers and Bronx tale The Wanderers.

Mr Holmes said: "These films represent the many ways in which music and sound can be orchestrated, manipulated and simply placed in film to create moments of pure magic."

The movies will feature soundtracks put together by artists and composers including Ennio Morricone, John Barry, Kraftwerk and David Bowie.

Charlie Kaufman-helmed existential comedy Synecdoche, New York is currently showing at the QFT.

Reviewing the film for the Telegraph, Tim Robey commented that the movie is "a stark, unflinching and heroically honest exercise in self-examination".
