About

Carrickfergus is the oldest walled town in Ulster, pre-dating their counterpart in Londonderry. First protected by ditches in medieval times to defend the growing settlement surrounding the castle.

Join an expert local resident tour guide on a walk beginning in the shadow of Carrickfergus Castle, incorporating the Walls Walk and many fascinating sites around the town with significant stories to be told.

The final stop is at Carrick's Hidden Tower House - Dobbins Inn. Here the connections to the town are told through an interpretation which traces the residents of the Tower House dating back to 1530's. Hear the story of young Thomas Seeds, saved by chivalry in 1760, his exercise books then to be discovered centuries later hiding in the walls of the Inn.

Finish the experience with delicious and simple food and drink inspired by medieval culture, which had more in common with modern-day concerns than appreciated - think seasonality, sustainability, and provenance these were as important in the 12th century as they are in the 21st.
