A short circular trail within the grounds of the Beech Hill Country House Hotel suitable for users with all abilities.

Route

Follow the yellow waymarker disks that say ‘Skipton Trail’ from the trail head which is located at the western end of the Hotel car park. The trail flows in an anti clockwise direction, leading you past the front of the Hotel, the Marine Monuments and past the marquee. The main house is complex and curious dating from 1729. Projecting out in front of what must have been a regular and simple 18th C Skipton family home is a massive late 19th C porte cochere above the carriage arch. The house continued to be modified when it was purchased in 1875 by the Nicholson family. Since the 1600s, the Beech Hill has been the residence of former Mayors and Sheriffs of Derry as well as a Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland.

Continue past the marquee where the trail will lead you across the bridge between the middle and bottom ponds. From here there are pleasant views of the bottom pond waterfall and the middle pond bridge. Continue to follow the waymarkers leading left after passing across the bridge. The Beech Hill Water Wheel can be seen here. This water wheel came from an old mill in Donnemanna and was restored by Leo Donnelly. The trail then ends by rejoining the car park at the front of the hotel.
