Events During the Games

21 – 28 July

Fiddler's Green International Festival

Based in the scenic village of Rostrevor, there will be free outdoor ceilis, an open air stage, art exhibitions, children's entertainment and even a literary pub crawl. All musical tastes are catered for with lunchtime, early evening and night time folk clubs.


28 July

International Bog Day and NI Bog Snorkelling Championships

A family fun day with the chance to try your hand at this unique sport which involves
competitors completing two consecutive lengths of a 55m bog drain, in the shortest time possible.


28 July – 2 August

Northern Ireland Milk Cup
Coleraine, Ballymena, Ballymoney and Limavady

Watch the stars of the future in this world famous youth football tournament which has attracted teams from all corners of the globe, such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and the Brazil National team.


Month of August

August Craft Month
Various locations, Northern Ireland

An annual celebration of craft, featuring events and activities that showcase the work of craft makers in Northern Ireland and from further afield.


1 August JLS Concert at Pairc Esler

JLS will perform along with Microlip and Dublin’s Key West. The concert takes place during the week of the World Police and Fire Games and is a high profile event designed to entertain the many international competitors and visitors in Northern Ireland for the Games.


1 – 11 August

Féile an Phobail
Various venues, West Belfast

This major festival features concerts, debates, tours, exhibitions, drama and street theatre with world-class and international acts playing alongside Irish talent.


3 – 4 August

Tanglewood Music and Arts Festival

 Some of the 70 acts to perform over the weekend include ASIWYFA, Duke Special, Mundy, The Japanese Popstars and many more. There will be live music, DJs, acoustic acts, cuisine stalls, workshops, dancing, arts and crafts and lots more.


3 – 10 August

Maiden City Festival

A packed week of performance in music, dance and drama within and around the historic Walled City, celebrating history and heritage, community and diversity.


3 – 11 August

Heart of the Glens Festival

Enjoy a packed programme of events in picturesque Cushendall. Highlights include a parade, storytelling, craft fair, vintage fun day, food festival and challenge mountain run.


4 – 11 August

Maiden of the Mournes Festival

This is South Down's best loved community event, with an ever increasing international appeal.  Attractions include concerts, children’s events, a fireworks display, sports events, the festival banquet, and the crowning of the Maiden of the Mournes.


8 – 11 August

7 Hills Blues Fest
Armagh City

A weekend of blues as some of the finest blues bands on the circuit take to the atmospheric streets of Armagh. Fringe events add an artistic and family-oriented buzz to the festival.


10 August

Festival of Flight

One of the major highlights in Northern Ireland’s events calendar attracting tens of thousands of visitors. The town comes alive with aerobatic displays, vintage vehicles, demonstrations, live music, street entertainment and so much more.


11 – 18 August

All-Ireland Fleadh

The biggest festival of Irish music and culture anywhere in the world will come to the city for the first time as part of it’s year as City of Culture.


16 – 24 August

Belfast City centre

Northern Ireland’s premier outdoor music festival will return to Belfast’s atmospheric Custom House Square with another amazing line-up.


18 August

Walled Towns Day

The unique history of the town's walls will be brought to life with walking tours and living history re-enactments with characters in period costume.


22 – 26 August

Happy days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival

Inspired by Nobel Prize writer Samuel Beckett, Happy Days is an international festival of theatre, music, literature, circus/mime, art, rock, comedy
and street-arts, held in Ireland’s only island town.


23 August

The Lough Neagh Festival of Lights
Ballyronan Marina

A spectacular illumination-themed event on the shores of Lough Neagh, including an impressive line-up of activities in the evening.


23 – 25 August

Hilden Beer and Music Festival

Great live entertainment and a fantastic range of world beers, set in the unique surroundings of Hilden Brewery.


24 – 25 August

Belfast Mela

Northern Ireland’s largest global arts festival returns to Botanic Gardens with a spectacular line-up of music, dance, food, and arts from across the world. An exciting addition in 2013 is an amazing new outdoor evening production combining dance, shadow puppetry and stunning pyrotechnics.


24 – 26 August

Newtownabbey Shoreline Festival

An array of bands, fun family activities and a fireworks extravaganza on the shores of Belfast Lough.


26 – 27 August

The Auld Lammas Fair

Ireland’s oldest traditional market fair featuring street entertainment and the chance to sample local specialities like dulse, a dried edible seaweed, and ‘yellow man’, a deliciously sweet, chewy toffee.


29 August – 1 September

The Northern Ireland Open Challenge
Galgorm, Ballymena

Michael Hoey heads up this excirting golf challenge to be held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. This is an opportunity to see some of Europe’s finest golfers take on one of Ireland’s finest courses.


30 August – 1 September

Appalachian and Bluegrass Festival
Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh

A well-established festival featuring performances from some of the biggest names in bluegrass music, both international and home-grown, in a unique open-air setting.


31 August – 1 September

NI International Airshow

Ireland’s biggest airshow returns with an impressive line-up of fast jets, World War Two fighters, helicopters and stunt planes, alongside a full programme of family entertainment.


5 – 8 September

Hillsborough International Oyster Festival

This long-running festival features the World Oyster Eating Championships along with fun and entertainment for all, in the picturesque Georgian village of Hillsborough.



Motorsports Events
Various locations, Northern ireland

Many top motorsports events take place during and around the time of the Games. These include Armoy Road Races (Armoy, 26 – 27 July), Mid Antrim 150 Motorcycle Road Race (Clough, Ballymena, 2 – 3 August), Orchard Motorsport Rally (Lurgan, 10 August), International Ulster Grand Prix (Dundrod, 11 – 17 August) and Ulster Raly (Enniskillen, 23 – 24 August).
