Glenarm Castle Estate and Walled Gardens

The Walled Garden situated in the grounds of Glenarm Castle is one of Ireland’s oldest walled gardens dating from the 18th century. Glenarm Castle is the ancestral home of the McDonnells, Earls of Antrim. This hidden gem is open to visitors from Easter to end of September. The garden hosts many events throughout the season.

Details available on our website www.glenarmcastle.com.

Since opening to the public in 2005 the garden continues to evolve as a centre of horticultural excellence with imaginative herbaceous borders, water features, fruit and vergetable gardens and display of flowers which burst with colour from spring to autumn. From the mount at the top of the garden you have a great view of the Castle, sea and the estate beyond.

The 19th century mushroom house, now Converted into a charming tea room and gift shop, is open too visitors for delicious light lunches and homemade cream teas.

Glenarm Castle Walled Garden, in it incomparable setting by the sea, will delight all who come to visit, with it's charm as well as horticultural spectacle, we hope will leave an enduring memory. Our hope is that you will want to return again and again.

We are delighted that again the season will commence in the garden with our 10th Annual Tulip Festival (30 April - 2 May) with some 8,500 tuilip on display in the borders and tubs around the garden and is the perfect opportunity to witness the garden coming back to life after the closed winter season.

Glenarm Castle

Glenarm Castle is the home of Viscount and Viscountess Dunluce and their family. The present castle has been in the McDonnell family since it was first built in 1636. The McDonnells have been in Glenarm for nearly 600 years and the Estate has been in the family for 400 years. In the house you will see superb examples of Irish furniture as well as portraits of family members from the early 17th Century through to the present day. Before taking up full time residence at Glenarm the family lived most notably at Dunluce Castle. The castle is occasionally open to the public, and welcomes group visits. Contact us to arrange.

A warm welcoming awaits all visitors to the garden and on a few occasion (www.glenarmcastle.com) the family open their home to visitors throughout the year.

Glenarm Castle’s charming Tea Room, situated in the old Mushroom House, is open daily to all visitors. We have just opened an extended and revamped Tea Room offering more comfort, but still maintaining that special charm. In the Tea Room you can relax and enjoy a delicious homemade cream tea or lunch, overlooking the kitchen garden.

Also open is our new stand-alone Castle Shop, providing a wide range of ladies and gents fashions and accessories and a selection of beautiful gifts and souvenirs - with many ranges exclusive to Glenarm Castle.
