Great Geo bake-off at the Marble Arch Caves

On Sunday 1 June the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark will host the Great Geo-Bake Off at the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre.

Organised as part of the European Geoparks Festival together with the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, this is a unique experience which will offer participants the opportunity to bake ammonite shortbread, make conglomerate buns and assemble their very own chocolate volcanoes. Participants will also get the chance to take part in the technical challenge, create a signature bake and construct a Geo-Bake Off showstopper.

The Geo-Bake Off is not just about baking, so those with little or no experience can take part and families in particular are encouraged to come along. The best thing is that entrants get to eat whatever they make!

Dr Kirstin Lemon from the Geological Survey explains more: “The geology and landscapes of Northern Ireland are some of the most diverse in the world, but some of the processes that formed them can be hard to explain. The Great Geo-Bake Off will not only be great fun but it is useful to show how some of the rocks and fossils in the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark formed.”

The Great Geo-Bake Off takes place on Sunday 1 June at the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre with sessions at 2pm and 3pm. The cost to take part is £5 per person and includes refreshments. Places are limited so booking is essential so to book a place contact the Marble Arch Caves on 028 6634 8855.
