Limavady calls on all 'Dannys' to visit during 2013
Limavady Borough Council – home to the tune of the world famous song, Danny Boy – is calling on all Dannys, Dannis, Danielles, Daniels and Dans across the world to visit the town and sign an exclusive, 400th birthday card in 2013.
THE Script frontman and coach in the hit TV series The Voice, Danny O'Donoghue launched the Danny Boy signature project this week.
The cards will take pride of place inside a Limavady 400 time capsule, to be filled up and put on display at the end of the year.
Not one to miss out, Limavady solicitor and former chairman of the Danny Boy Festival organising committee Peter Jack changed his name to Danny by Deed Poll on launch day.
It is hoped a few more famous Dannys will add to the collection in the coming months, says Limavady 400 events coordinator Andy Chapman.
“We will certainly be targeting a few household stars,” he says.
“Even if they cannot be here in person, birthday messages will add plenty to the project. Danny Devito, Daniel Day Lewis, Dan Carter, Dannii Minogue… we will try them all.
“The north-west is expecting an influx of tourists this summer with events including the City of Culture project and our own Limavady 400 itinerary, and we are hoping to have as many countries as possible represented in this project.”
On presentation of a passport or another form of identification, contributors to the Danny Boy signature scheme will have a photograph taken, sign a card and receive a certificate of having visited Limavady, the true home of Danny Boy… celebrating its own 100th birthday in 2013.
The cards are available for signing inside the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre/Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró, Main Street, Limavady.
If you cannot visit Limavady, you can request an online card for signing by emailing Andy Chapman at firstname.lastname@example.org. Cards can be scanned and returned online, or posted to the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre/Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró, Main Street, Limavady at 24 main Street, Limavady, County L/Derry, BT49 0FJ.
