Northern Ireland Microlights is a microlight flying training school based at Newtownards Airport.

Trial flights can be booked using the above telephone numbers. Alternatively, telephone with any queries and/or arrange a no obligation visit to the airfield to talk to the instructors and see the aircraft.

Training is on the latest Nosewheel or Tailgragger 3 Axis aircraft. All training and examinations for a full UK pilots licence can be undertaken at Newtownards airfield, Portaferry Road, all year round.

Trial flights around Strangford Lough are available from £85 (Civil Aviation Authority approved). Tuition costs £90 per hour (all inclusive). Students may hire club aircraft for solo training flights at a cost of £90 per hour. All equipment is supplied by the school. Warm clothing and sensible shoes should be worn.

The microlight aircraft controls are not adapted for disabled students. Trial flights are available subject to access requirements. All spectators welcome.

Tuition is suitable for students aged 14 years and over, maximum weight 14 stone 2 pounds. ( 90 kg ).

Road Directions

Directions from Town:
From Belfast: BY ROAD Approaching from Belfast; head towards Dundonald, continue through Dundonald village following the signs to Newtownards. Follow the dual carriageway towards Newtownards, at the roundabout, take the first exit to the left (past Ards Shopping centre), move into the right lane, at the traffic lights turn right. Continue towards the town centre, once past the fourth set of traffic lights move to the right lane (you are now in a one way system). Turn right and move to the left lane (you should be going down a hill). you are now on the Portaferry Road, move into the right lane, there is a Fire Station to your left, continue straight ahead, pass the Texaco petrol station and look for the Ulster Flying Club sign on t+he right. Approaching from Comber; follow the dual carriageway out of Comber towards Newtownards. Pass the entrance to Helicopter Training & Hire on the right and continue towards the town centre, at the third set of traffic lights turn right (signpost to Portaferry). The road veers sharp left and merges into a one way system, move into the right lane, you are now on the Portaferry Road, there is a Fire Station to your left, continue straight ahead, pass the Texaco petrol station and look for the Ulster Flying Club sign on the right.
